GIS-based groundwater quality assessment for domestic and irrigation purposes in Ogbia local government area of Bayelsa State, Nigeria

Groundwater is germane to human existence. The study assessed the physicochemical attributes of groundwater for domestic and irrigation applications. This was conducted by collecting subjecting thirty (30) samples analysis. Thirteen parameters such as pH, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, hardness, magnesium, calcium, sodium, iron, fluoride, chloride, sulphate, nitrate, phosphate were used compute water quality index (WQI). While magnesium adsorption ratio (MAR) sodium (SAR) characterise purposes. Inverse distance weighted (IDW) interpolation method develop spatial variation maps both WQI indices. Except iron results within WHO permissible limits. values boreholes range between 23.53 393.72 with a mean value 108.69. classified into excellent (7.89%), good (40.00%), poor (43.34%), very (5.44%) unsuitable (3.33%). indices show that chloride EC fall suitable status, MAR (46.67%) (53.33%), SAR delineate status (43.33%) marginally (56.67%).
